The down command is a bit more difficult but this also depends
on the dog. This is step two as the dog needs to understand the "sit"
command before learning this. Place your dog in a sit. Say in a nice but
firm tone of voice "down". then take both of your hands and place them
on the dogs front legs gently pulling them forward until the dog is in
the Down position. Great, now you can praise him and repeat the lesson.
Don't be discouraged if he doesn't learn this as quickly as the sit command.
This will probably take longer. Once your dog does follow the command
independently, but then at times does not, speak a firm "No" when the
command is not followed and place him in the down position. Again praise
him after the down position is accomplished.
